Description
Product Features
Compelling and beautifully stitched embroidered placemats with scenes of rural South African people, elephants, giraffes, plants, village homes, and more. All created by members of the Mapula Embroidery Project, an internationally celebrated women's empowerment project. Embroidered images jump from the tightly woven black cotton background fabric. Placemats are slightly padded with quilt type stitches that hold the layers together. Back side is unadorned black fabric.
Whether used on your dining table or framed as a wall hung decorative item, appreciation of the joyfulness of the images and the quality of the stitchery is irresistible.
See dimensions and other specifics under the 'Product Features' tab - note that due to the individuality of each item, slight variations in size may be expected. Images shown are representative of design and subject matter - sorry, selection of particular content is not possible.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
If necessary, Mapula Emproidery Project creations may be gently hand washed in cold water. We are advised to
avoid the use of detergents
. If soap is necessary, try a gentle dish soap or other product intended for delicate textiles. Test on the back or inconspicuous location to be sure it does not affect the dyes. Blot and let air dry. If necessary, iron at lowest (nylon/acrylic) setting on the
back-side with a steam iron
using an ironing cloth between the embroidery and the iron.
We carefully test-washed a piece with dish soap with good results, but we are not liable for damage caused by washing. Our best advice is to wash only if necessary and then to proceed with care.
